It’s only January 24th but I’m ready for a distraction, what about you?

In an age where information is abundant and easily accessible, the act of reading can sometimes feel overwhelming (just ask how many unread books I have on my Kindle!). As someone who has always cherished the written word, I find myself at a literary crossroads: rather than diving into new books, I’m faced with the daunting task of whittling down my Medium reading list, which has ballooned to an unmanageable 275 articles dating back to 2018! Some of these articles have even disappeared from the platform, leaving me with a digital graveyard of unfinished thoughts and abandoned ideas.

The ‘allure’ of new adventures

Books have always held a special place in my heart. They are gateways to new worlds, sources of knowledge, and companions during solitary moments. The thrill of discovering an engaging narrative or a thought-provoking non-fiction title is unmatched. I was that small town geek in middle-school who won multiple back-to-back awards and prizes for reading the most books each summer; as verified by a trusted local librarian and quizzes. Reading was an escape from the cornfields and country life I longed to leave behind.
