No: Food Delivery Apps
I’m hardly a month into my ‘Year of No’ and already it’s been very freeing to simply say ‘No thanks’ to so many projects, extra work, and situations that are clearly designed to stretch me to my max.
The first thing I said ‘no’ to I had been toying with in December but made it official this month: food delivery apps.
In the last six months I regularly used the following food delivery apps, as in once or more per week: Uber Eats, Grubhub, Instacart, DoorDash, Postmates, Bite, Seamless, Deliveroo, and I’m sure even more I’m forgetting. Why so many apps?
They’re all shitty — at least in my locale.
I have spent the better part of the last two years (foolishly) trying out any and every food app that was available. All with the hopes that I’d find the holy grail, ‘The One Food App To Rule Them All.’ I often pondered ‘Was I asking too much of an app?’ but then I’d remember why I was hopping from each of them like a kid playing the hot lava game on sidewalks.
- One app had somehow installed twice (?) and therefore each time I ordered it would order the same thing twice. Ugh.
- Another app was notorious for not being able to find the entrance to my condo — this happened more than a dozen times collectively in my home.
