Do You Even Spiritual Bro? 5 Ego Traps

As a proud Atheist I always thought spirituality must include the godly elements of unconditional love, idyllic forgiveness, and a monk like humbling lifestyle. Right?? Some of this is true and some is not.

As I have left those outmoded ideas and mindset behind, I have found the resounding notion of “ego” is a major player when encompassing and self identifying your own personal flavor of spirituality.

Ego is a little like the wind

It’s there, you can feel it, you can see the effects it has on things around it, you can even predict it at times, but you can’t really “see” it the way you may see a cup on your desk or clouds in the sky.

A lot of self awareness activities such as meditation, yoga, or journaling touch on the idea of the ego and can open you up to potentially spiritual bypassing. We all have ego no matter how large or small. It’s that little voice inside of you that says things to us in a state of fluxing fears — or falsely sustained “success”. Spiritual bypassing steers you away from dealing with the ego head on and instead offers some quick feel-good solutions with no measurable results. It’s a dangerous form of denial and is often disguised as self-care.
